‘I don't want to stay in England, f*** England, I don't want to stay,' Mohamed Ibrahim Harun shouted at the end of the hearing

A Sudanese migrant screamed "f*** England" at a judge after being handed down a prison sentence for carrying out a horrific sex attack on a woman in her 20s.

Mohamed Ibrahim Harun, 32, who broke into Britain "in the back of a lorry", launched the attack after inviting the victim back to his Sunderland flat after meeting her in a park.

When he was arrested, the Sudanese national denied having any sexual contact with the woman - but later claimed the encounter was consensual.

The victim described the ordeal to the court as "the worst day of my life".

Following an eight-day trial at Newcastle Crown Court, Harun was convicted of rape after pleading not guilty.

On Monday, the 32-year-old was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years behind bars and placed on the sex offenders' register for life.

The Sudanese man - who had been assisted by an interpreter throughout proceedings - erupted into an extraordinary outburst in the courtroom at the end of the hearing.

He screamed at Judge Carolyn Scott: "I don't want to stay in England, f*** England, I don't want to stay."

Newcastle Crown Court heard that the victim met Harun in a park in 2024, where the migrant invited her - along with others - back to his flat to have drinks.

But two hours after they went to his property, CCTV footage captured her fleeing the address.

The young woman took refuge in a shop, where she called the police to report that she had been raped by the Sudanese migrant.

Addressing Harun, Judge Scott said: "She said in the flat you had forced yourself upon her. She describes you having raped her in the kitchen.

"She said she didn't want to have sex with you and describes you being all over her and that the sex was forceful and hurt."

The court also heard the victim impact statement, which the victim said that "every day I think about what happened to me that day and what he did to me".

The woman added: "On the day it happened I remember being in such a good mood and having fun with my friends, I had been drinking and enjoying the sun.

"I was pleased to meet what I thought would be new friends and was happy to hang out with them.

"I still can't believe what he then did to me. He just took what he wanted from me.

"I went from having a great day to the worst day of my life. I didn't want to have sex with anyone that day, I just wanted to have some fun and enjoy the day.

"I feel like he set it up to get what he wanted and didn't care what I wanted and that I didn't want to have sex.

"He has stolen my carefree and trusting nature."

David Callan, defending, told the court that the 32-year-old only received a basic education in his home country, where he memorised the Qu'ran - but appeared to be illiterate.

He described Harun's entry into Britain as "unorthodox", telling the court he had arrived "in the back of a lorry" - and was "immediately" granted asylum.

After the 32-year-old was sentenced, Detective Inspector Martin Cottle, of Northumbria Police's Rape Investigation Team, paid tribute to the victim for reporting the horrific crime.

He said: "She was preyed on in a horrific way because her attacker thought she was vulnerable - but she has shown immense strength to come forward."
