The last words of George Floyd were; ‘’I can’t breathe.’’ Starmer saw an opportunity and took the knee.
The last words of young Henry Nowak were; ‘’I can’t breathe.’’ With Henry being white, our Prime Minister saw no political opportunity in making a grand gesture and stayed standing.
In the seven months since the student’s murder, Starmer hadn’t said a damned word about the killing. Does anyone believe that if a black or brown lad had died of stab wounds with handcuffs placed on them by police that Starmer, Mahmood or Lammy wouldn’t have been fighting for the microphone to express their horror at this ‘’racist’’ murder?
Starmer’s performance was lamentable. The first time he deigned to speak was just before 7pm last night- four days after Digwa was convicted. Why did he wait? The white majority were looking for leadership and understanding.
They didn’t get it. He didn’t talk about race. Yes, he accepted that Henry’s killer had made ‘’appalling claims’’ but didn’t say they were about colour. Why not? Clearly because he feels a lot stronger about Black Lives Matter than White Lives Matter.
Police have released the moment Henry Nowak was arrested by Hampshire Police after being stabbed multiple times | PAIn the febrile atmosphere which grips the United Kingdom today, such mistakes by our Prime Minister mean the white community can become alienated from organisations like the police.
The reality is that the police have been brainwashed. Chief Constables who want to stay in their jobs and Crime Commissioners who want to be voted back in, have all embraced the mantra that white people are racist while the black and brown communities are victims.
That moment has passed. From now on, if you ever face the untrue charge of racism, just retort with the name Nowak.
Mainstream media must carry a decent share of the blame. In the early days of the trial, the news sites covered the trial extensively, but the BBC, ITV and C4 didn’t bother and only joined in with decent coverage when Henry’s father Mark gave his moving address on the steps of the court.
I agree with Nigel Farage (not something I say every day) that there is an anti-white prejudice in the country. When the Floyd death happened, 4,000 miles away in Whitehall, rioters defaced the Cenotaph.
When a similar outrage happens here, we can’t even muster the Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood to say something.
It did occur to me that as there has been enmity between the Muslims (Mahmood is one) and the Sikhs for centuries – even today there’s the odd brawl in Southall, that she has kept out of it for fear of riots kicking off.
I am astonished Labour is so relaxed about the carrying of the Sikh ceremonial blade. I quite understand that the knife may have been appropriate in India in the 16th century to fight off Muslim marauders but this is the bustling city of Southampton in 2026.
I am certain Henry’s trial will have an effect on the Makerfield by-election. Polling shows Reform was already neck and neck with Burnham, but it will be no surprise if Rupert Lowe’s share does not move up 10 per cent. A remarkable result.
Commentators can’t complain if white voters turn to Restore as a form of political protection from the arms of the Establishment which appear to value black lives above their own.
