Ukraine is warning that Russia is planning to conduct a "training and combat" launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile just hours after Moscow carried out its "heaviest drone attack" on the ex-Soviet state since the war began.

The GUR agency said in a statement that the launch was ordered to be implemented from Russia's Sverdlovsk region.

They added that the flight range for the missile was more than 10,000km.

The launch site is just over 3,850km from London, and the ballistic missile can reach the whole of the UK and Europe.

The range also expands to the US, with the West Coast city of Los Angeles located around 9,661km away.

Fears over Russia's use of long-distance weaponry have been highlighted by European nations since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022.

The Ukrainian regions of Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk were hit with 273 exploding drones between Saturday night and Sunday morning, according to reports.

Some 88 were intercepted, and 128 were "lost", having been electronically jammed, Ukraine's air force said.

The alleged attack is the largest drone strike, passing the previous record number of 267 drones on the eve of the war's third anniversary earlier this year.

The full death toll remains unknown, however, casualties are expected to be low.

In Kyiv, a 28-year-old woman was killed, and three people, including a four-year-old child, were injured, according to regional governor Mykola Kalashnyk.

Firefighters fought to control flames at business premises destroyed by drone attacks just outside the city.

Vladimir Putin has remained silent on the attacks ahead of a planned phone call between US President Donald Trump about "ending the war".

Trump has promised to speak to Putin and then President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday after the first direct talks between their warring nations failed to agree on a ceasefire this week.

Putin snubbed Zelenskyy's offer of face-to-face talks in Turkey.

Talks did bring the promise of the largest ever prisoner swap between the neighbours, involving 1,000 prisoners of war on each side.
