The Prime Minister's total bill is nearly three times more than the one raked up by Rishi Sunak during the comparable period

Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of "rank hypocrisy" after spending £102,000 on domestic flights since taking office following last July's General Election.

The revelation comes after Labour previously criticised his predecessor Rishi Sunak's use of private jets while in opposition, with Starmer promising to impose strict regulations on ministerial use of private aircraft to "save millions of pounds for taxpayers".

Sunak's bill for private UK flights amounted to £36,900 during an equivalent 10-month period after he became Prime Minister in October 2022.

Starmer's figure is nearly three times more than Sunak spent during the comparable period.

In February, the Prime Minister took a flight to Cornwall that lasted 41 minutes - the same duration as a Blackpool flight for which Sunak was criticised by Labour in January 2023.

At that time, Labour accused Sunak of making a "mockery" of his environmental strategy when he took an RAF jet from Northolt to Blackpool.

Later in 2023, then Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves told Labour's party conference that she would clamp down on ministers' use of private jets.

She specifically attacked Sunak's "private jet habit" and promised that under Labour, strict regulations would be imposed on ministers' use of private aircraft.

Shadow Cabinet Office Minister Mike Wood has criticised the Prime Minister over the flight expenditure.

Wood said: "This is just more rank hypocrisy from Keir Starmer and his Labour Government."

"Labour were all too happy to point the finger in opposition. But now in government, it is clear that this was just petty political point scoring and it's one rule for them and another for everyone else."

The Prime Minister has also come under fire for hypocrisy over his stance on immigration by Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch.

Following the launch of Labour's immigration strategy, Badenoch shared a series of clips of Starmer’s previous comments on the subject, where he spoke repeatedly about the benefits of immigration.

Alongside this, Badenoch asked in the caption: “Can you trust this man?”
