Protestors in Greece have been seen sporting a "Glorify the resistance" banner, featuring Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis members.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in cities across the country on Saturday, rallying against the ongoing US-Israeli military campaign targeting Iran.

The protests were coordinated by an alliance of left-wing political organisations, trade unions, student groups, migrant associations and humanitarian bodies.

The largest gathering came in Athens, where crowds assembled at the parliament before proceeding towards the American Embassy.

Protesters called for an immediate end to the conflict, urging Greece to stay out of the war and prioritise spending on health and education over defence.

One video circulating online shows one female activist, whose voice is projected through a megaphone, saying: "We are standing with Iran. We are standing with Palestine. We are standing with Lebanon. We are standing with Yemen.

"We are standing with all the axis of resistance against the Zionist entity and American imperialism, and we are saying one more time: the axis of resistance will be victorious."

She later called on those around her to "stand with Iran".

Hezbollah flags could also be seen at the march. Its military wing has been proscribed in the European Union, including Greece, since 2013.

In 2019, the UK proscribed the organisation as a whole.

Eirini Thanou, another demonstrator, said: "We are here to send a message against the war, against EU-level initiatives that aim to strengthen tools for war preparation. We do not want to be part of that war; we stand with people and peace."

Kostas Asimakis voiced concerns about the long-term consequences for younger generations.

"Greece should have absolutely nothing to do with this situation, as it will only result in losses for our country," he stated.

Athens has seen a multitude of anti-war demonstrations since the US-Israeli offensive in Iran on February 28.

Other banners demanding Greece remain "out of the massacre," along with: "No interference in Iran's affairs", "No war, return peace to the people", and "No deployment of Greek troops to the Middle East".

The conflict between the US, Israel and Iran has now stretched beyond four weeks, exacting a devastating toll.

More than 1,900 Iranians have lost their lives, whilst injuries exceed 24,800.

On the opposing side, at least 19 Israeli and 13 American military personnel have been killed.

Beyond the human cost, the ongoing hostilities are creating significant turbulence in global markets.

Oil prices have surged as a direct consequence of the fighting, unsettling international financial systems.

The broader economic fallout continues to mount, with analysts warning of sustained pressure on the world economy as the conflict shows no signs of resolution.
