The collision happened on a level crossing

A high-speed crash has left a train driver dead and 27 injured, 13 of them seriously.

The TGV was carrying 243 passengers when the collision happened at about 7am at a level crossing 50 miles east of Calais.


It took place on a level crossing at Nouex-les-Mines.

The police and SNCF, the rail operator, are investigating how the lorry came to be on the crossing, and its driver has been taken into custody for questioning.
