Investigators are said to be by his hospital bed and questioning him

Suspected shooter at the Bondi Beach terror attack, Naveed Akram, has woken from his coma and is being questioned by police.

Naveed, 24, along with his father Sajid, 50, are accused of killing 15 and injuring dozens more at a celebration for the first day of Hanukkah on Sunday.

The pair are alleged to be responsible for Australia's deadliest mass shooting in almost 30 years, carrying out the atrocity on a bridge near the infamous Australian beach.

While his father died from gunshot wounds, Naveed was given life-saving CPR at the scene and rushed to hospital, where he was placed in a coma.

Footage showed one experienced Aussie officer taking cover behind a tree before unleashing a burst of shots towards the older gunman.

Police called the hit that killed Sajid a "once in a lifetime shot" and praised the detective’s fearless actions.

New South Wales Police then confirmed that the younger alleged gunman awoke from his coma on Tuesday, with investigators at his bedside and speaking to him.

The pair had just returned to Sydney after a trip to the Philippines, where they received "military-style training," according to reports.

The Akrams then booked into a £45-a-night rental in Campsie, 12 miles from Bondi.

They had told their family they were on a fishing trip at Jersey Bay, around 124 miles from Sydney.

Akram's mother, Verena, said that she had spoken to him just hours before the massacre on Sunday morning, when he told her he had "just went for a swim".

"Anyone would wish to have a son like my son…he’s a good boy," she claimed.

Verena explained Akram had plenty of friends when he attended Cabramatta High School, but tended to keep to himself, spending much of his time on scuba diving, fishing and swimming.

The 24-year-old had worked as a bricklayer before his company went bankrupt and had been searching for employment in recent weeks.

More than 1,000 people were in attendance at a Jewish event, advertised as a Chanukah by the Sea, when the two gunmen opened fire.

NSW police were called to the area at around 6.47pm local time after reports of multiple people being shot. They told people near the scene to "take shelter".

Videos circulating online showed two men in black clothes crossing a bridge at the beach.

A 10-year-old girl who died in hospital is among the 16 people who died in the Bondi Beach terror attack, NSW Police said.

A retired police officer and a Holocaust survivor also died in the attack.

In the wake of the terror, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called a meeting of the country's national security council and condemned the attack, saying the evil that was unleashed was "beyond comprehension".

"This is a targeted attack on Jewish Australians on the first day of Hanukkah, which should be a day of joy, a celebration of faith," he said.
