A 14-year-old boy was shot dead on Thursday in southeast London with three people arrested in connection to the attack, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.

Initially, officers were unable to identify the victim at the time and the boy was at first referred to as an adult.

His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The fatal incident occurred in Woolwich in broad daylight, at roughly 3.40pm. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two boys, aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident. All three remain in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, whose team is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with the boy’s family and loved ones.
