An author has declared a "catastrophe" might be required to eliminate the left-wing political project of "woke culture" across both the US and UK.
Sitting down with GB News's Will Kingston, Lionel Shriver, a leading American author, discussed her latest novel which centres on illegal migration in New York City - touching on the "woke ideology".
The author shared she was "not convinced that woke was dead yet", admitting some might have leapt to conclusions after President Trump was elected.
Commentators have argued the 2024 Presidential Election coming out in favour of the Republican signalled the death of the left-wing ideology, with "common sense" coming out triumphant.

Ms Shriver has declared that something which "binds together" an alliance of Islamists and communists, as described by Will, is "the desire to tear down Western civilisation".
However, the author added: "But it doesn't feel like that in and of itself in the long term, is sustainable for that political project, when you are pulling together socially regressive Muslims and socially progressive, far left liberal.
"This is an alliance of convenience. It does really intrigue me that the progressive left, the woke stirrers, if you will want to tear down their own societies.
"And they never regard themselves as part of those societies and as potential victims of their own destruction," she added, describing the phenomenon as "mystifying".

She continued: "These are the same people who make, you know, large, vicious generalisations about white people and don't believe that those generalisations that to that pertain to them.
"It's a kind of double think or maybe a better word for it is stupidity."
She continued: "This ideology is not going away. It is deeply entrenched in our institutions, in both our countries.
"I am concerned that in order to dislodge it, we may have to go through some kind of catastrophe whereby we come out the other side realising that these luxury beliefs of ours...

"We can't afford them anymore, we can't afford that kind of luxury.
"And we have to get back to basics because we have to start having children, or we're going to disappear, and we don't have the kind of money that we used to."
The journalist explained the type of catastrophe she had envisioned was often financially-based.
"I'm very attuned to the consequences eventually," she explained. "We don't know when the national debts are really going to bring us down.
"So I'm braced for that and maybe, maybe it'll be worth it. If we have something horrible happen, we will get real on the other side."
Since assuming his position in the White House, Mr Trump has kickstarted an "anti-woke" agenda, including bids including cracking down on diversity and inclusion policies.
He vowed his presidency would end the "tyranny" of DEI (Diversity, Equality and Inclusion) policies across the military and the Federal Government, favouring meritocracy over "box-ticking".
His allies have argued the DEI initiatives conflicted with such merit-based thinking - and actually creates discrimination.
