Fifty two people taken to hospital following hazmat incident due to 'chemical odour'

Over 50 people have been hospitalised following a hazmat incident in Pennsylvania.
Fire crews and police are in attendance at 7451 Keebler Way in Upper Macungie Township, Lehigh County.
52 people have been hospitalised after eyewitnesses said there was a chemical smell in the building and some employees were reporting nausea, vomiting and headaches.
Lt Pete Nickischer from the township police said crews are monitoring the interior of the building.

Nickischer told WFMZ the cause had not yet been determined.
St. Luke’s says 22 of the people were taken to its hospital in Allentown. All are stable and will be discharged.
Ambulances from Berks and Northampton counties were dispatched to the scene to assist.
A spokesperson for Lehigh Valley Health Network, Brian Downs said Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest admitted more than 20 patients, and 10 patients were taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg.

Downs said most people did not have symptoms but were there to be checked as a precaution.
Others had minor symptoms like a headache and hoarse throat, Downs said, adding none of LVHN's patients had serious symptoms.
Hazmat crews are still working to determine what sickened the employees, Nickischer said.
Fire crews investigated but couldn't find a gas leak.
Lehigh County Special Operations is assisting crews at the scene and are expected to remain at the scene for the rest of the day.
Crews have since cleared the building, allowing people to re-enter.
