White House adviser Dr Sebastian Gorka has urged Britain to take a tougher stance on border control and national security, saying the UK should “defend its sovereignty” in the same way as the United States.

Speaking on The Late Show Live, Dr Gorka said a senior Labour figure had privately admitted Britain should adopt similar tactics to protect its borders.

He told Ben Leo: "You cannot be a nation unless you have borders. You have to stand up for sovereignty."

Dr Gorka explained: "A member of the Labour Government said to me, “Yeah, we need to do what you’re doing.

"We need British snipers deflating those rafts before they leave the French shore, because we need to protect British sovereignty.”

"I was stunned. A senior figure within the Labour Government said this. I won’t name them, but this is someone in a very senior position who told me, “I’ve had it. Why can’t we do what you’re doing?”

"Let me be clear: Make America Great Again and America First are about sovereignty. You cannot be a nation unless you have borders.

"We want every country that is a friend, an ally, or a partner to be sovereign as well.

"Look at the cartels, if Mexico had full sovereignty, we wouldn’t see them running rampant across the country.

"So what’s the reluctance from Europe? I think it’s political correctness gone mad. I don’t recognise the nation I was born in.

"I grew up under Margaret Thatcher, and that would never have happened under her leadership. It’s this attitude of “you can’t do that, it’s mean” an unwillingness to stand up for sovereignty. That’s the issue."

Dr Gorka also said the Trump administration had "vaporised" nearly 400 jihadis in just nine months by allowing the military and intelligence community to "do their job."

He claimed that this is a sharp contrast to what he called the "insanity" of Joe Biden’s rules of engagement.

The London-born 54-year-old also defended the administration’s decision to target narco-terrorists and drug cartels, arguing that the policy was saving "tens of thousands of lives".

The Trump administration claimed it was doing this by cutting off the flow of fentanyl and cocaine into America.

However, Dr Gorka's comments come against the backdrop of a major US military build-up in the Caribbean, including guided missile destroyers, F-35 fighter jets, a nuclear submarine and around 6,500 troops.

Tensions between Washington and Caracas have surged since Mr Trump took office in January, with US forces launching strikes against alleged “narco-terrorists” and Venezuela responding with military mobilisations.

On Wednesday, the 47th President confirmed he had authorised the CIA to carry out covert operations inside Venezuela.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has denied any involvement in drug smuggling, claiming the US strikes are merely a pretext for regime change.

He instead accused the Trump administration of violating Venezuela’s sovereignty and breaching international law.

Throughout his political campaigns and second term in the White House, Mr Trump has pushed for a more aggressive, militarised approach to tackling the illegal drug trade.

Mr Trump has declared that the United States is engaged in a “non-international armed conflict” with drug cartels, which he has designated as “unlawful combatants.”
