The outspoken woke-baiter told GB News he will not accept the ruling lying down

US conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk has vowed to get in touch with leading figures in the President Trump administration regarding Lucy Connolly’s case.

Connolly has lost an appeal against her 31-month prison sentence for an online rant about migrants on the day of the Southport attacks.

Speaking on GB News, Kirk, a prominent American political activist with allies in the Trump regime, expressed outrage at the decision he thinks is an affront to free speech.

“I think she just had her petition denied”, he said. “It’s so outrageous.”

Kirk continued: “I’m going to try and get the US State Department involved. I’m a US citizen, not the US government, just to be very clear.

“Is this a way a liberal democracy and an ally of the United States acts? What she said will not be worth any prison time in America.”

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

Connolly was arrested on 6 August 2024 after calling for “mass deportation now” in an X post on 29 July, which also said hotels housing asylum seekers should be set on fire.

The post was viewed 310,000 times in the three-and-a-half hours before Connolly deleted it and issued an apology.

Kirk said while does not condone what Connolly said, but said she “showed contrition” by apologising.

“You guys [Britain] birthed free speech in the world, but you’re now becoming a totalitarian country”, he said.

Asked by Ben Leo how he intends to raise Connolly’s case to figures in the US administration, he said: “I’m going to bring this up to Marco Rubio.

“I’m going to send him a text. This should be mentioned. JD Vance brought up similar issues in Germany.”

Connolly was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court last October after pleading guilty to a charge of inciting racial hatred.

She was ordered to serve 40 per cent of the sentence in prison before being released on licence.

Her post came in the wake of three young girls being killed in a crazed knife attack by Axel Rudakubana at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class in Southport last year.

False information spread claiming the perpetrator was a Muslim asylum seeker leading to riots and unrest in multiple locations across the UK.

Rudakubana, 18, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 52 years in January after pleading guilty to the murders of Elsie Dot Stancomb, Bebe King and Alice Dasilva Agular.

A US intervention would not be the first time it has concerned itself in Britain’s free speech affairs since Trump took office in January.

His Vice President JD Vance attacked Europe’s free speech standards in a speech in February.

He claimed the greatest threat facing the continent was not from Russia and China, but “from within”.

According to Kirk, Vance’s prophecies have come true and Connolly’s case is a clear example of the troubles facing Britain.

“This is what’s so wrong about how the country is viewing this”, he said.

“Who even cares about the circumstances? You are allowed to say these things. The fact you are policing speech…

“You are becoming Orwell’s 1984.”

Asked if the Trump administration is “aware”, he said: “I do know the State Department is keenly aware about the assault on free speech throughout Europe.

“They always preach like, ‘we are the bastion of democracy’, you do not have a free, liberal democracy without freedom of speech.”
