The family of the Democrat said he and his family are reviewing treatment options

Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer with metastasis to the bone.

A spokesman from the former President said he and his family are reviewing treatment options.

A statement read: "Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms.

"On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone."

"While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management," his office said.

According to Cancer Research UK, a Gleason score of nine means the cancerous cells "look very abnormal," and the disease is "likely to grow quickly."

Biden, who served as president from 2021 to 2025, abruptly ended his bid for reelection last July, weeks after a halting performance during a debate against Republican candidate Donald Trump prompted panic among his fellow Democrats.

Vice President Kamala Harris took over as the party's nominee but lost in November to Trump.

Biden's physical health and mental acuity drew intense media scrutiny even before the debate.

At the time of his election in 2020, Biden was the oldest person to win the presidency. Trump, 78, broke that record when he defeated Harris last year.

In February 2023, Biden had a skin lesion removed from his chest that was a basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer.

A source close to the Biden family told NBC News, that the former president is considering "multiple treatment options" - including hormone treatment for the cancer.

President Donald Trump wrote on his Truth Social page: "Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery."

Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wrote on X: "So sorry to hear the news that President Biden has prostate cancer. Too many men are struck by this disease. We must continue to raise awareness of the danger it poses. Wishing Joe all the best for his treatment."

Republican and Trump ally Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote on X: "I’m sorry to see this news. Cancer is truly awful. My Dad passed away in 2021 with cancer. Prays for Joe Biden and his family."
