Hundreds of migrants have set up camp inside both of Chicago’s airports as the overrun city grapples to contend with the overwhelming influx of new arrivals.
Images show hundreds of cardboard boxes laid out on the floor at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport Terminal 1, with what appears to be the entire shuttle bus centre completely full.
Migrants are understood to have been camping out there for weeks at a time having arrived on shuttle buses sent from the Texas border.
According to AP, both O’Hare and Chicago’s other international airport, Midway, are housing migrants.

As many as 400 migrants are believed to be housed behind a black curtain at O’Hare with a private company monitoring their movements.
One O’Hare volunteer, Vianney Marzullo, told AP the shuttle bus centre was supposed to be a “stop-and-go place” and issued an urgent warning over the situation.
“It’s very concerning,” Marzullo said.
“It is not just a safety matter, but a public health matter.”
According to the latest data, border patrol agents processed near-record levels of migrants.

According to CBS News, as many as 210,000 crossed in September - the third highest number on record - but the number does not take into account those that managed to cross the border without being apprehended.
The record number falls just short of the highest ever tally in a single month, which came in December 2022, when 222,000 were apprehended crossing the border.
In a recent press statement, Abbott said Biden’s “reckless” open border policies have caused the crisis.
“Texas communities like Eagle Pass and El Paso should not have to shoulder the unprecedented surge of illegal immigration caused by President Biden’s reckless open border policies.
“I have directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to deploy additional buses to send these migrants to self-declared sanctuary cities and provide much-needed relief to our overrun border towns.
“Until President Biden upholds his constitutional duty to secure America’s southern border, Texas will continue to deploy as many buses as needed to relieve the strain caused by the surge of illegal crossings.”
Cristina Pacione-Zayas, first deputy chief of staff for Mayor Brandon Johnson, said the Windy City was working to address its capacity problems despite having built 15 new migrant shelters since May.
“Is it perfect? No,” Pacione-Zayas said.
“But what we have done is stood in our values to ensure that we live up to operationalizing a sanctuary city.
“We will continue to work on it, but we are holding the line.”
