PSG vs Bayern Munich served up an absolute classic of an opening first half

What a night at the Parc des Princes. PSG and Bayern Munich served up an absolute thriller in their Champions League semi-final first leg, with five goals flying in before the break.

It was one of those matches that had everything – drama, quality, and momentum swinging back and forth between two European giants.

The French hosts found themselves behind early on, fought back brilliantly to take the lead, only for Bayern to level things up again before a controversial penalty.

Fans barely had time to catch their breath as both sides threw caution to the wind in a pulsating opening 45 minutes.

Harry Kane was the man who drew first blood for the German side, stepping up coolly from the penalty spot after Willian Pacho brought down Luis Diaz inside the box.

The England captain sent goalkeeper Matvei Safonov the wrong way and slotted home his 54th goal of what's been a remarkable season.

But it wasn't just another goal for Kane – it was a historic one.

The striker became the first Englishman ever to find the net in six consecutive Champions League games, breaking a record previously held by Steven Gerrard.

Bayern's top scorer this term continues to deliver when it matters most.

PSG didn't let their heads drop for long after going behind, though.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia produced a gorgeous curling effort to bring the hosts level less than ten minutes after Kane's opener.

The Georgian winger has been in sensational form in Europe this season, and he showed exactly why with that stunning strike.

His influence didn't stop there either – Kvaratskhelia was instrumental as PSG turned the game on its head.

Joao Neves rose highest to nod home from an Ousmane Dembele corner, putting the French side ahead.

But Bayern hit back through Michael Olise, who restored parity before the interval.

The drama wasn't finished there, though.

Deep into stoppage time, PSG were awarded a penalty that sparked plenty of debate.

Dembele's cross struck Alphonso Davies on the hand, but only after the ball had deflected off the Bayern defender's leg.

Referee Sandro Scharer was instructed by VAR to review the incident on the pitchside monitor, and after taking a look, he pointed to the spot.

Dembele took responsibility himself and made no mistake, firing past Manuel Neuer with real conviction to make it 3-2 before half-time.

In an action-packed second half, PSG raced into a three-goal lead after goals from Kvaratskhelia and Dembele made it 5-2.

Bayern held their nerve, though, in a raucous Parc des Princes as they reduced to deficit back to one goal with two strikes of their own.

Dayot Upamecano and Diaz muffled the crowd somewhat, meaning there is all to play for in a weeks time at the Allianz Arena.
