Police named the terrorist as a British citizen of Syrian descent who is understood to have been influenced by ‘extreme Islamist ideologies’

The US Department of Homeland Security has seemingly “mocked” Britain for allowing the man behind the Manchester terror attack into the UK.

Jihad Al-Shamie, a British citizen of Syrian descent, was named as the terrorist by Greater Manchester Police on the same evening he launched a car and knife attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall.

Police later revealed the 35-year-old, who was shot dead by armed police at the scene, was on bail for an alleged rape and is believed to have been influenced by “extreme Islamist ideologies”.

Al-Shamie targeted the synagogue on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Appearing to take a swipe at the UK on X, the US government department posted: “Want to help keep ‘Jihad’ out of America?”

The post was accompanied by a recruitment link, inviting Americans to sign up for the agency.

The recruitment page tells visitors they can become “a homeland defender protecting America from criminal aliens” by joining the agency.

However, the page also claims that successful applicants may be able to work remotely.

And, in terms of requirements, no degree is needed.

At time of writing, the post has been seen more than 1 million times on the social media platform.

Al-Shamie is understood to have moved to Britain when he was an infant and was granted citizenship as a minor in 2006.

During the terror attack, two men were killed and three more seriously injured.

Police confirmed six people have been arrested in connection with the attack.

The family of Al-Shamie posted a statement on social media distancing themselves from the attack.

They wrote on Facebook: “The Al-Shamie family in the UK and abroad strongly condemns this heinous act, which targeted peaceful, innocent civilians.”

However, GB News can reveal Al-Shamie’s father praised the October 7 Hamas terrorists as “Allah’s men on earth” on the day of the massacre.

Faraj Al-Shamie said “may God protect Palestine and its heroic people” after Hamas launched its deadly raid that killed over 1,200 people.

The trauma surgeon later described Israel as a “terrorist state” on his Facebook profile, where he has made regular posts on the civil war in Syria and the Israel-Hamas war.

Mr Al-Shamie said in his post on October 7 that the attack by the “Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades” had “proved beyond a shadow of a doubt” that Israel would “not remain”.
