Tommy Robinson's trial for refusing to comply with a request made by counter-terrorism police faces a three-week delay, a judge has declared.

Mr Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court this week following an incident at the Channel Tunnel on July 28 last year.

The prosecution and defence cases finished on Tuesday, leaving the verdict in the hands of District Judge Sam Goozee.

However, the judge was unable to set an immediate trial date after Alisdair Williamson KC revealed Mr Robinson would be out of the country for some time.

“He is a guest of the Israeli Government in Israel tomorrow,” the defending KC told Westminster Magistrates' Court.

Judge Goozee responded by telling Robinson that he would “accommodate” his “current travel arrangements” by adjourning his decision until November 4.

In a social media post, Robinson said: “Now that my trial is behind me, I will have my verdict handed down on November 4 in London.

“I’m leaving soon for a trip to Israel — a proud patriot coming tomorrow to stand with the Jewish state and deepen my understanding of the fight against jihad.”

The 42-year-old ex-English Defence League leader also claimed Tesla chief Elon Musk was covering his legal costs.

Mr Robinson said: "Thank you to Elon Musk for standing by me and covering my legal costs."

He also revealed he had been in communication with Israeli Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli ahead of his visit.

Mr Chikli had just recently revealed he was "proud to host [the] British patriot" following an attack at a synagogue in Manchester earlier this month.

He said: "Tommy is a courageous leader on the front line against radical Islam.

“At a time when Jews across Europe face rising antisemitism, it is vital to strengthen bonds with allies who refuse to be silent.

“He has proven himself a true friend of Israel and the Jewish people, unafraid to speak the truth and confront hate.

“Israel will always stand with the Jewish community and our allies worldwide.

"Together with friends like Tommy Robinson, we will build stronger bridges of solidarity, fight terror, and defend Western civilization and our shared values.”

However, Jewish community leaders were among those to condemn Mr Chikli for inviting Mr Robinson to Israel.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish Leadership Council said Mr Robinson “represents the very worst of Britain”.

“Tommy Robinson is a thug who represents the very worst of Britain," they added.

“His presence undermines those genuinely working to tackle Islamist extremism and foster community cohesion.

“Minister Chikli has proven himself to be a diaspora minister in name only.

“In our darkest hour, he has ignored the views of the vast majority of British Jews, who utterly and consistently reject Robinson and everything he stands for.”

Mr Robinson has previously been sentenced for contempt of court after repeating false allegations about a Syrian refugee and after putting grooming trials in Huddersfield at risk by breaking reporting restrictions.
