Police have launched an appeal for information after a woman was raped by several men outside an Epsom nightclub in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The vile attack is believed to have been carried out between 2am and 4am outside Epsom Methodist Church along Ashley Road in the Surrey town.

A woman in her 20s reported to Surrey Police that several men followed her after she left the nightclub along Spread Eagle Walk until they attacked her outside the place of worship on Ashley Road.

Detective Inspector Aine Matthews said: "We understand this is an extremely distressing incident and the victim is being supported by specialist officers.

"Our investigation is in its early stages and a team of officers have been conducting extensive enquiries today to identify and locate the suspects.

"We are working at pace to develop our picture of the suspects and we will share details as soon we are able to.

"As part of our investigation, we would like to speak to anyone who was in the area between 2am and 4am and may have been seen or spoken to a woman in her 20s in distress."

Not far off, the church is less than a minute-long walk away from Labyrinth nightclub.

It is also neighboured with two children's nurseries.

Meanwhile, Spread Eagle Walk, where the nightclub is located, serves as a hub for a range of individuals, with the building being home to a wellness centre, a gym, a patisserie as well as Labyrinth.

Described as Epsom's "biggest night out", the nightclub is still relatively new to the town centre, booting out the old Fever & Boutique Nightclub at the end of last year.

The newly-decked out space is described as a three-room nightlife venue, with themed spaces called "Botanic", "The Vault" and "Dirty Disco".

Just off the high street, the club is found at the back of the Grade-II listed Spread Eagle Hotel, which was once a well-loved local pub.

Nearby, Waterloo Road is also home to several nightlife venues, including Rhythms Nightclub, as well as the Cave along the Upper High Street.
