Residents in the area have been advised to keep windows and doors closed

A fire has broken out in Skegness as thick plumes of smoke are covering the skies above the iconic seaside town.

Emergency services are at the scene at a car wash on Old Wainfleet Road in Skegness, Lincolnshire.


Nearby residents haver been told to stay away from the scene and close their windows while crews tackle the blaze.

A spokesman from Skegness Police said: "Incident 170 of today relates to a fire at a car wash on Old Wainfleet Road in Skegness. Thankfully there have been no reported injuries."

The spokesman continued: "Old Wainfleet Road to Church Road south of the A52, Queens Road and Cross Street have all been closed.

"Fire & Rescue are aware and are currently on scene.

"Please avoid the area if you can, and if you live nearby, please close your windows to prevent smoke from entering your property."

Eyewitness reports emergency services were called to Bubble Car Wash and Valeting Ltd in the west of the town.

A spokesman from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service said Six appliances, an aerial ladder platform and a water carrier have been deployed to the scene, which is impacting three properties.

They added: "Thankfully there have been no reported injuries, and firefighters have worked closely with local police to evacuate nearby properties.

"Residents in the area are advised to keep windows and doors closed, to stay out of the downwind smoke from the fire, and to avoid the area while emergency services continue their work.

"Further updates will be provided as the situation develops."

Boston and Skegness MP Richard Tice told GB News: "As many residents will have seen, emergency services are currently dealing with a serious fire at a car wash on Old Wainfleet Road in Skegness.

"Thankfully, no injuries have been reported at this stage. My sincere thanks go to Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue and Lincolnshire Police who are working quickly and professionally to bring the situation under control, including evacuating nearby properties as a precaution.

"If you are in the area, please avoid the scene and keep windows and doors closed to prevent smoke entering your home. A number of roads are currently closed, please plan alternative routes.

"My thoughts are with the business owners and any local residents affected."

Onlookers have reported hearing what they believed to be explosions from the former Suite Dreams furniture shop adjacent to the car wash.

However, this has not been confirmed by Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue services.
