A Westminster councillor representing Reform UK has delivered a fierce condemnation of the capital's mayor over his approach to tackling crime.
Laila Cunningham, who switched from the Conservative Party to Reform in June, accused Sadiq Khan of failing to address London's escalating crime problem.
The councillor alleged that criminals now operate with impunity across the city. She claimed the mayor shows no interest in confronting knife crime whilst focusing his efforts on penalising motorists instead.
Cunningham's criticism comes as new government data reveals concerning trends in criminal activity throughout the capital, with multiple categories showing significant increases.

Official figures released on Thursday paint a troubling picture of crime in the capital. The Office for National Statistics data shows knife-related offences in London jumped by nine per cent over the past year, reaching 16,344 incidents.
The statistics reveal that London now accounts for nearly one-third of all knife attacks across England and Wales. These weapons were involved in 13 per cent of serious crimes in the capital, including 57 murders and 71 attempted murders.

Shoplifting has seen an even more dramatic rise, soaring by 53 per cent. Overall, police recorded 951,803 criminal offences in London during the twelve months to March.
Speaking to GB News, Cunningham recounted witnessing a thief leaving a shop with "ten steaks in his hands" just two days ago. She said the store manager informed her such incidents occur "every half an hour".

The councillor described an absence of police officers during a visit to Oxford Street and reported receiving feedback from constituents who feel increasingly unsafe.
She revealed her own son had fallen victim to street robbery, prompting her to pursue the attackers herself.
"I called the police and they told me they don't have the resources to deal with it," Cunningham stated, adding that persistent muggings were occurring throughout the city.
The Reform councillor expressed particular frustration with what she perceives as misplaced priorities from City Hall. She highlighted an Instagram post about micro-aggressions, where complimenting someone's English proficiency was labelled offensive behaviour.
"It should be a compliment. He is focused on dividing us," Cunningham said, arguing that Khan has "totally ignored policing" whilst simultaneously reducing police presence in Royal Parks.
She emphasised the disconnect between rising crime rates and diminishing police resources. "As crime goes up, he cuts policing," she stated.
The councillor also claimed London's deteriorating safety reputation has become apparent internationally, with people abroad commenting on the city's decline when she travels.
GB News has approached the Mayor's office for comment.
