The singer plans to convert two properties into one five-bedroom home

Ed Sheeran has sparked anger among residents in Suffolk over plans to convert two cottages into one home.

The Shape of You singer is said to be creating a "beachfront paradise" after his plans were given the green light by East Suffolk Council.

The approved proposals involve removing the dividing wall between the two adjoining properties to create one, five-bedroom house.

"[Mr Sheeran] created a gorgeous home for his wife Cherry and their two children, and now he’s creating a beachfront paradise for them," a source told The Sun.

"Ed has a team working on the properties and is planning on turning the two houses into one big house, with at least five bedrooms.

"He is going to make sure it’s totally in keeping with the local area and wants it to become their home-from-home by the sea."

The plans have however sparked backlash among locals.

One wrote on the planning application that it was "concerning to see this proposal".

Another person branded the Grammy-award winning performer's plans "selfish".

According to The Times, the resident said: "Sheeran could buy a big house by the beach anywhere, it’s selfish that he’s taking away these small family homes from locals who want to have families and stay in the area where they have been brought up."

The 34-year-old, who moved to Framingham Earl in Suffolk as a child, already has a number of properties including a private estate in Suffolk featuring two pubs and a chapel.

In September, he revealed he was "just about to move to America" with his family including wife Cherry and two children.

In an interview with The 2 Johnnies Podcast, he said: "I’m just about to move to America… I feel like I might be the only person moving to America… I’m going on tour there for a while, so I have a family, so I can’t dip in and out, we’re going and settling there."

The Lego House singer also revealed earlier this year that he was aiming to move to Nashville and transition to country music.

He told the Call Her Daddy podcast earlier this year: "When you transition to country, you can’t transition back.

"Nashville is my favourite city in the States and it’s always been my end goal to move to Nashville and transition to country."

His latest album, Play, was released in September and is the first of five planned symbol records, with Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind and Stop set to follow.
