The charity received almost £40million from the Home Office last year

A charity funded with the help of the Home Office teaches school children to see migration in a "positive" light.

Through its Schools Programme, Migrant Help says it seeks to "challenge the mindset of young people in the UK" by promoting "positive discussion" around migration through workshops and assemblies.

The charity said the programme aims to "dispel myths" and encourage thoughts on "how to be more welcoming to people from outside the UK".

Migrant Help, which runs an asylum helpline for the Government, signed a £235million deal in 2019 to give advice to asylum seekers and help them access housing, which has since increased to £385million, according to The Sun.

In the charity's annual report and financial statements for the year ending March 31, 2024, it says its income was £58.16million, an increase of 27 per cent from the previous year.

It attributed the increase to the "continued growth of the contract" from the Government.

A Labour spokesman said the contract awarded to the charity in 2019 had been "signed by the Conservatives".

"We are scrutinising contracts signed under their watch to make sure taxpayers’ money is spent wisely," the spokesman said.

The financial statement also stated that Migrant Helps' "main source of income" from charitable activities is Government grants and contracts.

It said the total income from the Home Office in the year was £39,291,000 (compared to £29,950,000 in 2023).

The Home Office said Migrant Help's Schools Programme is "funded entirely through charitable donations, with no financial support from the Government".

“This contract was agreed under the previous government. All contracts are subject to review to ensure they continue to deliver value for taxpayers," a spokesman said.

"We are furious about the number of illegal migrants in the UK, particularly those housed in hotels, and are working to closing down every single one."

A Migrant Help spokesman said: "The aim of Migrant Help’s Schools Programme is to engage with teachers and pupils across the UK to help encourage critical thinking and compassion whilst also empowering young minds.

"The workshops are educational, not political, and have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from teachers and students alike.

"Migrant Help is a charity. Every pound we receive is used to deliver and improve support for people in need.

"Our social enterprise, Clear Voice, provides high-quality language services to many organisations and donates all profits to Migrant Help to fund essential projects that strengthen our charitable work."
