A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an elderly woman in her 80s was stabbed to death outside her home in Plumstead, southeast London.
Police responded to reports of a man armed with a knife at Red Lion Place at 8.50am on Wednesday.
The victim, identified locally as Doris, was discovered with severe injuries and transported to hospital, where she later died.
A second man was reportedly threatened with the weapon - but escaped unharmed.
The suspect, a man in his sixties who is thought to have been known to the deceased, turned himself in at a nearby police station shortly after 9.10am.
He was subsequently detained on suspicion of murder.
Officers took him to hospital where he is being treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Forensic investigators have been gathering evidence from a Mini Countryman parked within a cordoned area outside the property.

Local residents described Doris as a beloved member of the community who enjoyed socialising with patrons at the neighbouring pub.
"Doris would stand outside and chat to the pubgoers for hours. She was an extremely lovely lady," one neighbour said.
The same resident added: "This is horrific. She was the kindest, warmest, sweet woman you could meet. It's horrendous news."
Detective Inspector Dean Grice, who is heading the Metropolitan Police probe her death, described the case as "a deeply tragic incident".

|He said: "A prompt and coordinated investigation has now been launched to establish the full circumstances and specialist officers are continuing to support the family throughout.
"Our thoughts remain firmly with the victim's family during this difficult time."
Detectives are not seeking any additional suspects in connection with the killing.
Detective Superintendent James Derham, the senior officer responsible for policing in the local area, moved to reassure residents about their safety.
He said: "At this stage, we believe that this was an isolated incident and I want to reassure the community that there is no wider risk to the public.
“We understand the impact a crime like this has on the community and you can expect to see an increased police presence in the area.

Specialist family liaison officers are providing support to the victim's relatives as the investigation continues.
