Nine people injured in London’s SECOND major bus crash over past 24 hours

The crash happened on the junction of Park Street and Park Lane in Croydon, around 11:30am today.

This is the second incident involving a bus in the capital within the past 24 hours as two double-deckers crashed yesterday in Southwark.

Ambulance crews rushed to the scene, the Metro reported, where nine people were treated for injuries.

It is not yet known whether those injured were passengers, the driver or members of the public and the extent of their injuries.

The police told the Metro that the crash is thought to have been caused by a medical incident.

No arrests have been made, the Met has confirmed.

The bus involved in the crash was the number 60, heading to Streatham Station.

It appears the double-decker crashed into a bridge barrier as it pulled out of Park Street onto Park Lane, in front of the Slug and Lettuce bar in Croydon.

A spokeman for London Ambulance service said: “We were called at 11.30am today to reports of a road traffic collision on Park Street, Croydon.

“We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager.

“We assessed nine people in total. We took seven patients to a local hospital and discharged the other two at the scene.”

Yesterday, six people were taken to hospital after two double-deckers collided outside the Southwark Playhouse.

Emergency services rushed to Newington Causeway in Southwark shortly after the police were alerted of the incident at 8:06am.

Injuries were not described as life-changing or life-threatening.

James Johnson, Strategic Commander for London Ambulance Service, said: “We were called at 8.06am to reports of a road traffic collision in Newington Causeway.

"We sent resources to the scene including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast response cars, advanced paramedics, an incident response officer and our Hazardous Area Response Team.

"We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.

"We treated a number of patients at the scene and took six of them to hospital.”

A nearby building also sustained some damage amongst the crash with one photograph showing a bus making contact with the front of the theatre.

Photographs also from the scene suggest the number 188 route bus had crashed into the back of the second bus.

The double-decker at the front of the collision appeared to have veered into the Southwark Playhouse.

Opening in 1993, the Southwark Playhouse includes Sir Michael Caine as one of its patrons.
