Monday's incident left 47 people injured during Liverpool FC's Premier League victory parade

GB News's home and security editor Mark White has called on Merseyside Police to release more details about the Liverpool car ramming incident "as a matter of urgency".

Mark expressed concern about the lack of updates since 11pm last night following Monday's incident which left 47 people injured during Liverpool FC's Premier League victory parade.

A car collided with pedestrians on Water Street in Liverpool city centre last night during celebrations marking Liverpool FC's Premier League victory.

Merseyside Police confirmed they were contacted just after 6pm following reports of the collision.

Mark White told GB News: "A 53-year-old man, the driver of this vehicle, is in custody, white British, according to Merseyside Police. They're not looking at terrorism as a motive at this stage.

"But the last update we've heard from Merseyside Police was at 11pm last night, nothing today. And, of course, they are urging people not to speculate, but people, of course, are going to speculate with a vacuum of information, which is what we had at the time of the Southport attack as well."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

"While you've got all those kind of counter theories coming out there, it is incumbent on the police to tell us as soon as possible as much as they know about this," Mark added.

He explained: "Now, what will have to come out? And as a matter of urgency, I would say, is some kind of confirmation as to whether proper roadblocks and barriers in place to stop vehicles coming through.

"If there was, then how did this vehicle get into the footprint of the parade itself? Now, it may have been parked up within the inner cordon and someone went back to that vehicle. We don't know.

"But clearly the people of Liverpool and Liverpool fans will be observing this as well."

Emergency services rushed to the scene where the vehicle was quickly stopped. Video on social media appeared to show a grey minivan striking at least one pedestrian before veering into a larger crowd, pushing bodies along the street before coming to a halt.

An air ambulance and other emergency vehicles swarmed the area to respond to the incident.

According to emergency services, 27 people, including four children, were taken to hospital, with two sustaining serious injuries. Another 20 people were treated at the scene, bringing the total number of injured to 47.

North West Ambulance Service said it was assessing the situation and working to ensure people received the necessary medical help.

Merseyside Police Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims told a press conference that they believe this to be "an isolated incident" and are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to it.

"The incident is not being treated as terrorism," she added.

A 53-year-old British man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police confirmed the man was detained at the scene after the car stopped following the collision with pedestrians.
