Farage's dismissal of Johnson came as part of a broader attack on the Conservative Party, which he declared is "dying as a political party" and "fully deserve everything that is happening to them"

Nigel Farage has dismissed the possibility of Boris Johnson returning to lead the Conservative Party as "completely irrelevant" during a speech at a Reform UK press conference.

The Reform leader delivered a brutal assessment of Johnson's potential comeback, noting that Johnson might be preoccupied with "some pretty heavy domestic duties" in reference to him becoming a father for the ninth time.

Farage's dismissal of Johnson came as part of a broader attack on the Conservative Party, which he declared is "dying as a political party" and "fully deserve everything that is happening to them" after what he described as "betrayal" following their 2019 victory.

"It's over, it is done," Farage told the conference, adding that the Conservatives have become "an irrelevance in Scotland, an irrelevance in Wales, a complete irrelevance in the Red Wall where nobody will ever trust them again."

Farage delivered his biggest speech since Reform's local election surge, where he branded Prime Minister Starmer as "one of the most unpatriotic in history".

The Reform UK leader said: "As for the Conservatives, I don’t think many in the media class yet really understand the extent to which they are dying as a political party.

"It’s over, it is done, and frankly after the level of betrayal that we saw especially since the 2019 team victory with the 80-seat majority they fully deserve everything that is happening to them.

"As I mentioned already, they cease to be a national party. They are now an irrelevance in Scotland, an irrelevance in Wales, a complete irrelevance in the Red Wall where nobody will ever trust them again.

"Now, of course, there’s much talk about who the leader of the Conservative Party might be, and they change leaders pretty regularly. Maybe Kemi Badenoch’s not having a particularly great time.

"Now there is somebody who fancies his chances. He’s been on a zen pick, he’s running marathons. I noticed a very nice new Savile Row suit the other day. Perhaps he even had his teeth done, I don’t know.

"But it’s completely irrelevant whether Robert Jenrick becomes leader of the Conservative Party or Kemi Badenoch stays on as party leader.

"It’s completely irrelevant if Boris Johnson, although he’s got some pretty heavy domestic duties by the looks of it, whether he decides to return.

"They will not be trusted again. They have no chance of winning the next general election, none whatsoever. And I don’t really wish to spend much more time talking about them.

"They did sink to 4th in the opinion polls with YouGov last year. It is over, it is done. They’ve had a good 200 years. It is now finished."

Reform UK's membership has grown dramatically, with Farage claiming an increase from 28,000 in June last year to over 235,000 currently.

He suggested this might make Reform "very, very close" to becoming "the biggest political party by membership" in the UK.

Labour has responded sharply to Farage's positioning of Reform UK as the champion of working people.

Party chair Ellie Reeves branded Farage a "privately-educated stockbroker who has only ever cared about his own self-interest".
