Jonny Bairstow took matters into his own hands and forcibly removed the disruptor

Just Stop Oil’s reckless decision to storm the pitch at Lord’s has been robustly defended by an eco-warrior from the organisation.

Speaking on GB News, Zoe Cohen boasted about the number of interview requests the organisation has received following their decision to disrupt The Ashes.

She told Mark Longhurst and Pip Thomson that the stunt can be deemed a success, despite the Lord’s crowd loudly celebrating as the eco-protester was forcibly removed from the field of play by England cricketer Jonny Bairstow.

Three people were arrested and taken into custody after Wednesday’s pitch invasion, the Metropolitan Police said.

“There’s been a huge number of requests for interview since the action took place at The Ashes this morning”, she said.

“I would say that was quite successful. Wouldn’t you? We’re on a highway to climate hell, as the UN Secretary General says.

“If ordinary people, supporters of Just Stop Oil don’t call out the Government’s inaction and the Government’s genocidal policies for new oil and gas out, no one does it.”

It comes as part of a series of protests from the climate change group, who have been staging daily demonstrations since April 24.

High-profile events like the Chelsea Flower Show, the Gallagher Premiership rugby final at Twickenham and the World Snooker Championship have been among those targeted, and another historic event has found itself in the firing line.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak swiftly denounced the actions of Just Stop Oil, saying they have justified the Government’s move to bring in new powers for the police.

His official spokesman said: “These sorts of selfish, guerrilla tactics that target events bringing joy to millions are exactly why the Government brought in new powers so the police can take swift action.

“The Prime Minister is pleased play was able to resume quickly and thanks security staff, the swift hands of Jonny Bairstow and other England players who stepped in.”

Just Stop Oil is calling for an end to all new coal, oil and gas projects in the UK, and Cohen believes the group are projecting the fears of many in authority.

She told GB News: “New oil and gas is a death sentence. We cannot afford to have more new oil and has on top of the deadly amount that we already have in the atmosphere.

“It’s not us saying that, it’s the UN, it’s the world leading scientist, it’s the Climate Change Committee, it’s the Pope, it’s doctors around the world. There are so many people.”

Earlier this month, protest laws were tightened up to allow officers to intervene earlier when protesters are marching in the road, forcing them on to the pavement where disruption is felt to be more than minor.

Bairstow has previously dealt with a disruption in play, coming in the form of YouTube prankster Jarvo, who rushed onto the pitch in 2021 during the fourth test against India at the Oval.

Jarvo, whose real name is Daniel Jarvis, was found guilty of aggravated trespass and handed a suspended prison sentence.
