West Yorkshire Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a woman in Leeds.

The young woman was discovered in a street in Austhorpe in the early hours of this morning.

Police were summoned to Kennerleigh Avenue at 5.55am with the victim being found lying unconscious on the road.

The woman, thought to be aged between her mid and late teens, had sustained serious injuries.

She received emergency hospital treatment but died a short time later.

Investigators have not yet established the victim's identity despite conducting extensive enquiries throughout the day.

Police have confirmed that efforts are underway to determine her identity.

Police have issued a description of the victim in hopes that members of the public will be able to identify her.

She has been described as 5ft 2ins in height with a slim physique and tanned skin.

Her hair is brown with darker colouring at the roots, which transitions to a blonder shade towards the ends. She has green eyes.

A distinguishing feature is that she wears fixed metal braces fitted to both her upper and lower teeth.

Authorities are appealing for anyone who recognises this description to contact them urgently so they can notify the woman's next of kin.

Four individuals have so far been taken into custody in connection with the killing.

The arrests were made at an address close to where the victim was found.

Those detained include two 18-year-old women, along with a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy.

All were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The four suspects continue to be held in police custody whilst detectives carry out further work on the case.

The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is leading the investigation and a cordon remains at the scene as officers continue their work.

Detective Chief Superintendent Marc Bowes said: "This is an extremely complex investigation where a young woman has sadly lost her life.

"We are treating her death as murder and have arrested four people in connection with it."

Detective Chief Superintendent Bowes emphasised that despite thorough enquiries conducted over the course of Saturday, officers have been unable to confirm the victim's identity.

He expressed hope that releasing the physical description would prompt someone to come forward with information.

He has requested that anyone present in the Kennerleigh Avenue area during the early morning hours, or who witnessed suspicious activity in that vicinity, make contact with detectives.
