A man has been left fighting for his life after being hit by a car in Golders Green.
The 41-year-old Iranian national remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Emergency services were alerted yesterday evening around 8.20pm.
It followed a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Golders Green Road in north-west London.
Police arrested a 39-year-old Iraqi national on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to provide a drug sample.
Reports claim the two men were involved in a "nasty" argument over the Iran war moments before the crash.
A source told The Sun: “A man who didn’t support the Tehran regime was having a nasty argument with a man who supported the Tehran regime.”
Despite the claims, the Metropolitan Police confirmed they are not treating the incident as terrorism.

The force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit will investigate the causes of the crash.
Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams said: "We know that this incident will cause significant concerns in the local community and residents can expect a continued police presence throughout the night.
"Detectives are working to quickly establish the circumstances and I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with us.
"We are aware of videos circulating on social media appearing to show the collision and those involved.

He added: "We would discourage the public from sharing both due to the graphic nature of the footage and to protect the integrity of the investigation.”
Volunteer Jewish security group Shomrim responded on social media.
A statement on X wrote: "At this stage, the incident is being treated as a road traffic collision and has not been classified as an antisemitic incident by the Metropolitan Police."
Volunteers from Hatzola, a Jewish medical service, were also present at the scene alongside London Ambulance paramedics.

It comes the same day as a major fire at one of Britain's largest Jewish supermarkets broke out in the neighbourhood.
Emergency services were in attendance at the Kosher Kingdom on Golders Green Road near the junction with Beverley Gardens.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police confirmed the fire is not being treated as suspicious and is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
Nearby businesses said they thought the fire broke out due to an electrical surge in a warehouse near the property.
