'Give me money for a test or help get me a termination,' Georgette Ravatte told her victim

A 28-year-old woman has admitted to extorting more than £6,000 from a man she met on a dating app by faking a pregnancy and threatening to expose him to his mother.

Georgette Ravatte pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to extracting £6,350 from her 25-year-old victim through an elaborate deception scheme.

The court heard how Ravatte not only claimed to be pregnant but also threatened that a so-called "cousin" of hers would inflict violence if her financial demands weren't met.

The victim became so fearful for his family's safety that he contacted police to report the 28-year-old's campaign of blackmail.

The pair first connected on the social media platform Kik in 2023, entering into a relationship in April of that year.

After they had unprotected sex in August 2023, Ravatte claimed she felt unwell days later and requested money for a pregnancy test and new jeans.

When the man blocked her, she left him a voicemail saying: "I think you are a coward for blocking me, I am a single mother and I am not going through this again."

She demanded: "Give me money for a test or help get me a termination."

Another voicemail threatened: "You better send me money for a termination or a test or I will tell your mum everything."

The victim then received messages from an unknown number warning that Ravatte would visit his mother, adding that she knew where he lived as she had followed him home.

After these threats, he transferred £1,000 to Ravatte's bank account and asked if she needed more.

She demanded another £1,000 to "buy her silence" and later claimed she needed £250 for items during a week-long hospital stay.

When Ravatte's demands escalated, she warned that her "cousin" was near the man's home and "about to go mental."

The victim received a text saying: "I know who you are and your family."

Ravatte told the victim: "I will try and hold my cousin off but if he wanted to do something I won't be able to stop him."

When police attempted to arrest her, Ravatte refused to open her door and was detained at a later date.

Defence solicitor Brian McGuire told the court there was an "unusual background" to the crime, which he would detail at the next hearing.

Sheriff Louise Arrol KC deferred sentencing pending background reports until next month, granting the 28-year-old bail.

Arrol warned her: "You can take it from me that I find this extremely disturbing, concerning and a very serious matter."
