Operation Raise the Colours has gripped the nation for months now as patriotic Britons brandish their nation's flag

A supply teacher has claimed that he was fired from his job after hoisting as many as 150 flags up around his hometown.

Sitting down with Nigel Farage on GB News, Shaun Remmer, from Thirsk in North Yorkshire, alleged that he was sacked after decorating the area with Union Jacks and regional flags.

Mr Remmer previously worked at Welburn Hall School in York as a supply teacher.

Speaking out on GB News, Mr Remmer told Nigel how he had been hanging all sorts of flags up around his town, from Union Jacks to regional flags.

The father-of-one and self-proclaimed "flag fanatic" said: "The agency I was working with basically told me that the school no longer required my services because they had seen on my Facebook that I had been putting flags up around the town and also the post regarding rape gangs."

He further explained that the body had "basically classed him as a racist" - "and that was the term I was told by the agency", he claimed.

However, he insisted that his intentions had nothing to do with prejudice.

'Nothing was about race. It was basically about what was happening - it could have been anybody," he said.

So far, Mr Remmer told Nigel that the authorities had only taken down one flag that he had hoisted because it was impeding the road after Storm Amy gripped the nation.

Now, the teacher has opened up about how he has been unable to find work elsewhere after his agency cited issues regarding safeguarding.

Astounded, Nigel exclaimed: "What?"

Additionally, he alleged that he was told that his DBS, which is the Disclosure and Barring Service, could be impacted by his patriotic actions as well.

The supply teacher even alleged that the school "tried to get him arrested" after he spoke out about his ordeal online.

Flabbergasted, Nigel simply repeated: "What?"

Explaining further, Mr Remmer alleged that the school had contacted the police after he announced online that Wellburn sacked him for putting up flags.

Noting that Mr Remmer seemed "pretty calm", the teacher lamented: "It was my dream job. I loved the kids. Everyday, they were so great. The kids were amazing there. They helped me more than anything."

He continued: "When you lose that sort of feeling everyday, it was quite emotional to be honest with you."

Widening the discussion to his panel, Nigel asked for the thoughts of his other guests, including former Tory MP Ranil Jayawardena.

"No one should be stopped from being a teacher because they hold centre-right views," the politician fumed.

"Simply because someone want to fly the flags across their community, there's no reason why they should not be able to teach or support teachers in helping young people thrive."

He further added: "It's worrying, isn't it? That if that is that's the mindset of some teachers in some schools, then what are they teaching our children?"

Operation Raise the Colours has gripped the nation for months now as patriotic Britons brandish their nation's flag up and down the nation, as well as numerous regional and local flags.
