A massive fire broke out overnight at a newly-renovated Fife hotel with firefighters continuing to tackle a "well-developed" blaze.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent several appliances to the scene at St Michael’s Inn in Leuchars when the alarm was raised at 10.11pm last night.

At the height of the incident nine fire appliances and four specialist resources were at the scene dealing with the "well developed" blaze, SFRS said.

Six appliances and three specialist resources were still at the scene at 6.45am.

Fife Council said motorists were facing disruption due to the blaze.

In a post on social media the council said: "Major disruption to roads in North East Fife, towards Dundee, due to fire at St Michaels Inn."
