The victim said he was subjected to a tirade of vile abuse while wearing a kippa - and then blamed himself

A man has been left fearing for his life after he was called a "dirty f***ing Jew" in an alleged antisemitic attack.

The alleged victim, who has been named as Moshe, said he was subjected to a tirade of abuse hurled by a man who approached him while he was doing building work on a Berkshire property on Monday.

Moshe said he was further labelled a "baby killer" and was assaulted while wearing a black kippa, which is a Jewish head covering.

He filmed the attack taking place along Elliman Avenue, shared with the BBC, which captured a man threatening to break his jaw.

The man appears to attempt to push Moshe's phone out of his hand.

"I was thinking two things," the victim told the BBC. "Number one was survival. Number two, I was just berating myself: 'What were you thinking going out like this, in England, as a visible Jew?'"

When approached, he says he received a slew of "f***ing babykiller", a "dirty mother****ing Jew" and a "dirty mother***ing Zionist little f***ing pig".

Earlier today, Thames Valley Police confirmed they arrested a 48-year-old man from Slough on suspicion of racially or religiously aggravated assault and public order offences.

Officers were called at 4.36pm after reports that a man in his 20s was threatened on Elliman Avenue.

Investigating officer Detective Inspector Terry Dixon, of the Berkshire East Priority Crime Team, said: “We know this incident will cause a great deal of concern within our Jewish communities, I would like to reassure you that we are progressing this investigation as a priority.

“We urge anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened to please get in touch with us if you haven’t already.

"Antisemitic incidents, or indeed any hate-related incident reported in the Thames Valley, will not be tolerated by police and we will do everything in our power to bring those responsible to justice.

“At the current time, we have not received any similar reports in the area.

"If you do witness or have been the victim of any similar incident, please do report it to police so we can investigate it."

Since the attack, a spokesman for the Community Security Trust condemned the "utterly abhorrent and unprovoked" attack at a Jewish man "simply doing his job".

He added: “The video is completely shocking and there must be a lot of people who, if they watch it, will know exactly who the perpetrator is.

"We are supporting the victim and urge anyone with information about this appalling incident to contact the police.”

The arrest has followed a string of antisemitic attacks across London, including an alleged arson attack at Kenton United Synagogue in Harrow.

Visiting the place of worship today, Sir Keir Starmer was told the Government must tackle antisemitism at the root.

Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis told the Prime Minister: "We need as a society to look at the cause and our Government needs to direct its attention in order to guarantee that the Islamist threat, not just to the Jewish community but to our entire society, is something that will be taken far more seriously.

"We need to be worried about the extent to which Israel has been demonised unfairly and as a result our Jewish community is suffering."

He warned there was a sense that antisemitism was becoming "normalised and tolerated" - and he requires a zero-tolerance approach.

"That is in terms of demonstrations, in terms of legislation, carrying out the law in order to guarantee that perpetrators of hate crime will actually be sent to prison," he demanded.

He further called on the PM to ban the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) along with "similar organisations".

"It is long overdue. No one can expect our Jewish community and peace-loving people in this country to feel at ease as long as that ban is not in place," Sir Ephraim said.
