British man found dead between parked cars near popular holiday hotspot as police launch probe

Police have launched an investigation after a British man was found dead between two parked cars at a Costa Blanca holiday resort.
The 50-year-old's body was found on the ground in the town of Javea which is up the coast from Benidorm in the south-east of Spain.
An alert was sent out about 7.45am on Sunday morning.
In the afternoon, the Civil Guard said that there was no obvious signs of violence at the scene.

However, it was waiting results of the autopsy.
It is unclear if the man was a local resident or holidaying in the area.
Police raced to the scene after a call went into a regional government-run emergency response centre.
The area was sectioned off for forensic officers to investigate.

An Alicante Civil Guard spokesman confirmed the dead man was a 50-year-old British national.
"At around 7.45am this morning, through a regional emergency response coordination centre, a report was received regarding the discovery of a possible deceased person on a street in the municipality of Javea," the spokesman said.
"The officers dispatched to the scene confirmed the death of a 50-year-old British man.
"The Territorial Team of the Judicial Police of Calpe has taken charge of the investigations to clarify the circumstances of the incident."

A British woman died after collapsing during a dip in the sea at the resort's Arenal beach in May 2023.
Reports said she had keeled over while she was in shallow water.
The woman's relatives are believed to have pulled her out of the water.
Half of the coastal town of Javea's resodent population and more than two thirds of its annual visitors are foreigners.
The population ticks just more than 30,000.
