Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters have been called to a building fire on High Street in Beckenham.
The blaze broke out near an Odeon cinema in the South London town.
The London Fire Brigade has urged the public to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed due to smoke travel.
Half of the roof of a mixed-use building, currently under refurbishment, was alight, according to the fire service.

The second and first floors of the building were also partially on fire.
The fire was brought under control by 10:33am.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire on the upper levels remains under investigation.
A spokesman from the London Fire Service said: "Firefighters are working hard to prevent the spread of the fire to adjoining buildings, including a cinema."
The local Odeon is home to six screens.

|Authorities are asking people to avoid travelling through the area whilst the incident remains ongoing.
At time of writing, road closures are currently in place around the scene.
The brigade received the first of 18 calls just before 8am this morning.
Control Officers have mobilised crews from Beckenham, Bromley, Woodside, Forest Hill and surrounding fire stations to the scene.

|A 32-metre turntable ladder from Forest Hill is also attending and is being used as a water tower to help extinguish the fire from above.
Station Commander Tony Perks, who was at the scene, said: "Firefighters have worked extremely hard to prevent the fire spreading significantly to adjoining buildings, including a cinema, resulting in very limited damage to those buildings. The fire was producing a significant amount of smoke and we advised people in the area to keep their windows and doors closed. This advice has now been lifted.
"The incident continues to cause major traffic disruption in Beckenham and we are asking people to avoid travelling through the area whilst the incident remains ongoing as road closures are in place."
Beckenham, located in the London Borough of Bromley, is around 8.4 miles from the centre of London, with its High Street containing over 100 shops and restaurants.
