Suppliers offer support worth up to £1,700 as Ofgem cap forecast to climb from July

Energy bills are set to rise again this summer, with Ofgem’s price cap forecast to increase by £258 to £1,899 annually from July 1, according to Uswitch predictions based on EDF and E.ON Next data.

Cornwall Insight analysts said the cap could climb even higher to £1,929.

The current cap stands at £1,641 as of April 1, leaving households facing further increases in the months ahead.

The Resolution Foundation said the typical working-age household will be £480 worse off this year due to rising energy costs.

Energy suppliers are offering support packages worth up to £1,700 for customers who are struggling with bills.

Households are being encouraged to contact their provider, as many firms have grants and hardship funds available for those in debt or finding it difficult to keep up with payments.

OVO is continuing its Extra Support Package, which is valued at £56million.

The scheme includes reductions to direct debits, emergency credit top-ups and extended repayment plans for customers in debt.

Applications are open year-round, with customers required to provide details of their financial situation, including income and outgoings.

E.ON Next offers support through its Energy Fund, which provides grants to help cover gas and electricity bills.

Applicants must first complete a three-month Provisional Award Scheme, during which existing debt is frozen.

If payments are maintained throughout the period, the debt may be written off, while missed payments could result in the award being withdrawn.

Customers may also be able to apply for replacement household appliances such as cookers, fridges and washing machines.

Scottish Power runs a Hardship Fund for customers on low incomes or receiving benefits such as Universal Credit.

Payments are assessed on a case-by-case basis depending on individual circumstances.

The scheme, launched in 2021, is open to all households, not only British Gas customers.

Prepayment meter users may be eligible for grants ranging from £50 to £1,700, provided they have received money advice within the past six months.

Applicants who have received a grant from the Trust within the last two years are not eligible.
