Nationwide is the latest high street institution experiencing a banking app outage, according to customer complaints on social media

Nationwide Building Society's app and online banking services appear to be back online after experiencing an online banking and app outage earlier today.
Members complained about being unable to "access accounts" with the UK's biggest building society seeing its online services impacted by since around 3pm today (September 9).
It should be noted that direct debits and standing orders were working normally, and customers can still use cards online and in shops.
Furthermore, customers were still be able to withdraw their cash from ATMs and receive payments without any issue.
Nationwide Building Society customers 'cannot access accounts'
| NATIONWIDE / GETTYEarlier today, Nationwide confirmed that some customers were unable to access the app or internet banking and urged its members to try again later today.
At around 2:45pm, nearly 2,000 users reported issues with accessing the building society's online services via the Downdetector website.
Responding to customer complaints on X, Nationwide stated: "Sorry, both our Banking app and Internet Bank are unavailable. We’re working to get things back to normal as soon as we can."
A Nationwide spokesperson told GB News: "We had a technical issue that affected our internet and mobile banking service earlier.

On X, many customers voiced their frustration at being unable to fully access their accounts and the building society's wider services.
One customer posted: "Hopeless. Cannot access my accounts via the app or online. Will be switching my account once this is resolved."
Another tweeted: "I’m trying to transfer money to main account to buy a train ticket and food.

"I can’t even speak to anyone on the internet phone it just hangs up. I have no access to my money and no food this is unacceptable."
In response, the building society stated: "Hi there, sorry, both our Banking app and Internet Bank are unavailable. We’re working to get things back to normal as soon as we can."
Other banking institutions have been impacted by app outages in recent years, including NatWest and Santander, which has regular annoyance for customers.
According to research conducted by PR firm Reboot Online, Nationwide Building Society has the most complained about banking app in the UK, based on a study of 35,000 app reviews of 18 high street banks.
