Millions of pensioners are in line for Winter Fuel Payments this year

Older households are preparing to receive their Winter Fuel Payments this year, which offer up to £300 in energy bill support for those of state pension age who qualify for assistance.

This comes after the Labour Government changed the eligibility criteria for the previously universal allowance, with individuals who are not on means-tested Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) benefits with taxable income over £35,000 a year seeing their payments clawed back from the tax system.

Labour's attempt to reduce the scope of the Winter Fuel Payment's outreach comes amid ongoing concerns over excessive Government spending with Chancellor Rachel Reeves looking for ways to slash expenditure ahead of November 26's Autumn Budget.
