While active ingredients such as serums and hyaluronic acid offer multiple benefits for your skin, applying simple, natural ingredients can also be highly beneficial.
According to a skin care expert at Absolute Collagen Dr Sophie Shotter: "The most effective skin care routines often combine proven synthetic active ingredients with select natural ingredients that have demonstrated benefits such as soothing, moisturising, or antioxidant properties.
"When thoughtfully chosen, these ingredients can complement each other, supporting healthier, more radiant-looking skin."
Dr Shotter recommended four natural ingredients that can support healthier skin.
One of the ingredients the expert advised using is shea butter

For individuals suffering from "dry or irritated skin, aloe vera should be a go-to ingredient".
Dr Shotter explained: "The nutrient-rich gel found inside the leaves of the aloe vera plant is loaded with vitamins A, B12, C, and E, all of which work to hydrate your skin by locking in moisture."
A study published in the National Library of Medicine supported the doctor's suggestions on the natural ingredient.
It said: "Due to the properties of aloe vera and its compounds, it can be used to retain skin moisture and integrity. It also prevents skin ulcers as it contains mucopolysaccharides, amino acids, zinc, and water."
Another good option the expert advised is Squalane, which is "derived from olives and amaranth".
The doctor stated: "Squalane mimics the skin's natural oils, making it an ideal choice for sensitive and acne-prone skin. It's the perfect natural ingredient to hydrate, soften, and smooth skin without clogging pores."
Glycerin, derived from plant oils or animal fats, is "another powerful hydrator" that draws water from the skin's outer layer.
Dr Shotter explained: "[Glycerin] fights off dryness and keeps skin soft and smooth. Not only does it lock in hydration, but it also strengthens the skin's natural barrier, helping to defend against environmental stressors like pollution and harsh weather."

Shea butter "has long been a skin care staple", which the expert recommended to "nourish and reinforce the skin's barrier".
The doctor said: "It stimulates collagen production to maintain firmness and elasticity. Plus, its anti-inflammatory properties help soothe irritation and redness.
"However, its rich texture can be a bit heavy for acne-prone skin, so use it sparingly if you're prone to breakouts."
