The perfect feel to your home can derive from the ideal combination of décor, furniture and, as Mel (@my_neutral_place) points out, lighting.
From a simple side-table lamp to a whimsical centrepiece, there are so many variants to consider at all price points.
For Mel, mixing up your lighting is a winner: “Little changes can make a big difference.”

“Creating a cosy and flexible atmosphere is all about thoughtfully mixing different light sources,” they said.
Issuing a technical guide to lighting rooms correctly, the gurus outlined three types of light: ambient, task, and accent lighting.
Ambient lights are often the standard sort you would expect in a home: central overhead spotlights across rooms, or perhaps a central chandelier.
To take advantage of the space and light, it is important to consider the room’s size and height, and what type of atmosphere you wish to create.
“For larger spaces, multiple fixtures may be necessary to evenly distribute light, while smaller rooms may require fewer, strategically positioned fixtures,” the experts advise.
Meanwhile, rooms with lower ceilings might be better suited to more evenly distributed light or adjustable features to suit the space.

Higher ceilings may benefit from additional light sources or increased brightness to illuminate the space.
Softer lights may create a cosier energy, best suited for bedrooms and lounges, while stronger lights are best for workspaces like kitchens.
Task lighting includes desk lamps, reading lights, or floor lights, all designed for a specific purpose, whether this is studying, working, or reading.
The final type of lighting is accent lighting, which is considered the final layer.
Dubbed a “critical component of interior design”, decorative lamps add “depth, drama, and visual interest”.
Usually used to highlight specific points of pride in the home, such as a picture or other forms of art, its goal is to “create subtle contrasts and shadows”, while attracting attention to its most eye-catching aspects.
