The products may contain banned substances linked to reproductive harm and skin sensitisation

Three perfumes bearing Rihanna's name have been pulled from shelves at Savers Health and Beauty following the discovery of banned substances that pose significant health dangers.

The affected fragrances — Kiss, RiRi and Rogue — contain chemicals that are strictly forbidden under UK cosmetics regulations, with the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) warning these pose a 'serious risk'.

Local Authority Trading Standards alerted regulators to the issue, prompting an immediate recall of the 15ml eau de parfum bottles from customers.

Savers has confirmed that shoppers who purchased any of these products from their stores should cease using them without delay.

The recall represents the latest action by British authorities to protect consumers from potentially harmful cosmetic ingredients.

The prohibited substances at the centre of this recall are butylphenyl methylpropional, commonly known as lilial or BMHCA, and hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde.

Both compounds are expressly banned from cosmetic products under Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, known as the Cosmetics Regulation.

BMHCA presents particularly grave concerns for public health. The chemical has been identified as potentially damaging to the reproductive system and may pose risks to the well-being of unborn children.

Additionally, it can trigger skin sensitisation in some individuals.

Consumers can identify affected products by checking the ingredients label on the packaging, where these chemicals would be listed.

Customers who purchased the affected fragrances at Savers stores are entitled to a full refund upon returning the items.

The specific barcodes for the recalled products are 0608940572252 for Rihanna Kiss, 0608940560389 for Rihanna RiRi, and 0608940559437 for Rihanna Rogue.

Only bottles bought directly from Savers outlets with these particular barcodes fall under the recall notice.

Those who are unsure whether their purchase is affected may contact the retailer via email at help@savers.co.uk.

Further details regarding product recalls can also be found on the Savers website.

This recall follows a similar pattern of enforcement action against cosmetic products containing the same dangerous chemical.

Glow & Lovely skin creams, "presenting a serious chemical risk," have recently been withdrawn from the British market after regulators identified BMHCA in their formulations, according to the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS).

The Advanced Multi Vitamin Serum in Cream, originating from Pakistan, was pulled by distributor Lajawab Foods Limited due to the presence of the prohibited substance.

A second Glow & Lovely product, the Hydraglow Rose Enrich Serum Cream, was also removed from sale after investigators found its ingredients list was inaccurate and failed to declare fragrance allergens.

Owners of these creams are advised to discontinue use immediately and seek redress from the distributor.
