'The range is incredibly useful for anyone trying to hit their nutritional targets'

M&S Food is set to launch a brand new range designed to tackle Britain's nutritional shortfalls, landing in stores on January 5.

The Nutrient Dense collection has been created to help shoppers pack more vitamins, minerals and fibre into every bite after data revealed a staggering 96 per cent of us aren't hitting the recommended 30g daily intake.

This gap means many Britons are lacking in essential micronutrients too.

The retailer's new range aims to make closing that gap much easier, with 20 products spanning salads, drinks, snacks and meals, all bursting with flavour and goodness.

M&S nutritionists and chefs worked together to develop each recipe, drawing from a specially curated selection of 250 purposeful ingredients.

The British Nutrition Foundation was consulted to help shape the nutrition criteria for the range, with every product containing at least one of 10 key micronutrients that many people struggle to get enough of, including vitamin D, iron, folate and vitamin B12.

They're all calorie-controlled and carry the M&S Eat Well seal of approval, so shoppers can feel confident they're making a balanced choice.

M&S Head of Food Trends, Annette Peters, says the range is perfect for anyone watching their nutritional intake.

"The Nutrient-Dense range is so exciting and is also incredibly useful for anyone trying to hit their nutritional targets. It is also great if customers are reducing their food intake, such as those using weight-loss medication," she explained.

With around 3-4 per cent of Britons now taking GLP-1 medications like Mounjaro, getting enough nutrients from smaller portions has become increasingly important.

"We have challenged ourselves to make products that are denser in nutrients than calories, so every single mouthful is packed full of more of the good stuff we all need," Peters added.

One standout product is the Super Seeded Bread, which delivers an impressive 13g of fibre in just two slices – nearly half the daily target sorted at breakfast.

Peters noted: "The importance of us all eating enough fibre cannot be overestimated.

"As well as helping day to day with effective digestion, long term it is important to reduce the risk of bowel cancer and so many other diseases."

The range also includes the HO shot, a clever blend of coconut water, cold-pressed ginger juice and sea moss, packed with botanicals that have been verified by scientists at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
