It's all about playing the long game with skin care, according to an aesthetitian

A TikTok content creator has been sharing her secrets to achieving the coveted glass-like complexion, claiming that patience is everything.

The 50-year-old licensed aesthetician, who goes by Marissa, recently posted a video showing off a completely dry, product-free face after her evening cleanse.

"Look at my skin, it's completely dry, no stick, nothing is on my face. I just double-cleansed, this is what's happening from following my skin care routine," she told her followers.

She was quick to note that her transformation didn't happen overnight; it took a full year of sticking to her routine religiously. Breaking down her regimen, she shared four essential skin care steps that she swears by.

First up is double cleansing every evening without fail. In the mornings, she applies vitamin C serum to dry skin straight after washing her face.

"It slows down ageing and protects your skin cells," she explained.

Two to three times each week, she exfoliates following her double cleanse, then completes her routine with a retinol, which she dubs a "powerhouse for anti-ageing".

It's a straightforward approach, but the key is doing it consistently day after day. Marrissa even says her pores have become noticeably smaller after committing to her regimen.

"I'm 50 years old, I'm a licensed aesthetician, and even my pores are so much smaller. But it took a year of consistently doing those things," she said.

For anyone who's ever given up on a product too quickly, the aesthetician urged: "When you guys come at me with 'this product didn't work', and you only used one bottle of it, give it a year."

A board-certified dermatologist at Rapid City Medical Centre has previously explained why these ingredients are so effective.

She said: "To preserve skin elasticity, retinol is a vitamin A derivative which promotes collagen production and accelerates cell turnover, to minimise fine lines and wrinkles and improve skin texture."

The expert also highlighted how hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, keeping skin looking plump and firm.

Growth factors, particularly those from human neonatal fibroblast tissue, help cells repair and rejuvenate themselves.

Together, the ingredients offer a complete toolkit for fighting the visible signs of ageing.
