There are seemingly countless treatments to target ageing, but only a few have stood the test of time as true gold standards for improving skin.
As years pass, collagen production declines and cellular renewal slows, compounding the visible effects of ageing.
Add sustained exposure to sunlight, and these changes intensify, causing fine lines to become more apparent and wrinkles to deepen.
A 57-year-old skin care enthusiast named Jeannie works within the industry, giving her access to a host of treatments. Yet, only three stand out for their powerful anti-ageing effects.

Among the vast array of products on the market, tretinoin consistently stands apart as the benchmark treatment for skin rejuvenation, she recently explained on TikTok, where she goes by (_msjbeezy) and boasts more than 88,000 followers.
It’s a naturally occurring derivative of vitamin A that only received approval from the American Food and Drug Administration for cosmetic purposes during the 1970s.
Jeannie says it's a core component of the three-step skin care routine she has followed consistently for years.
“I am 57 years old and [these products] have literally changed my skin,” she said. “[I use] tretinoin at night.
"It’s really the only thing that’s going to give you cell turnover. It’s good for fine lines, wrinkles and texture."
Another key step in her skin care regimen is sunscreen, which she urges everyone to “be consistent” with.
“If you have to reapply during the day, then do it,” she added.
Microneedling, too, has been widely touted as an effective method to stimulate collagen development, with little recovery time required.

The procedure works by inflicting small controlled injuries across the skin’s surface to trigger the body’s innate repair mechanisms and prompt the regeneration of collagen.
The outcome is noticeably firmer skin with fewer wrinkles and fine lines, alongside improvements in overall tone and texture.

Tretinoin is often described as the gold standard of anti-ageing skin care

“I do my microneedling at home,” Jeannie declared. “I’m in the beauty industry, so it’s easy for me to get those tools. You might have to go to a med spa a couple of times a year to get microneedling.
“After that, you can add whatever you want. I’m just letting you guys know that those three things got me results.”
The efficacy of the skin care routine stems from multiple mechanisms working together.
Tretinoin is often described as the gold standard of anti-ageing skin care because it adapts to needs at all stages of life, while sunscreen prevents damage. Fortunately, it is never too late to start any of the treatments to see a difference.
