Hydration is 'vital' for our skin's health, one beauty enthusiast proclaimed

Plenty of skin care products on the market promise to reverse ageing and banish fine lines. Alas, more often than not, buyers are left duped and disappointed by the results.

But, in reality, it's more about the skin care routine that you use to actually apply the products. The order and timing of products might not cost a penny, but it is crucial to reducing the appearance of wrinkles ageing your complexion.

Beauty enthusiast Masha Solechnik shared on TikTok the "seriously overlooked" skin care technique made her friends ask her which products she's introduced to her routine.

But, in reality, she's simply introduced a technique called "layering".

She further lauded hydrating products as being why her forehead "looks better at 38 than it did at age 30".

"Hydration in skin care is seriously overlooked and most people will always ask me what Vitamin C or Retinol they should be using.

"In reality, they should be layering hydrating mists and serums, and always locking everything in with a cream that is both appropriate for their age and skin type," she told followers.

Despite "no one caring about hydration" due to it sounding "basic and boring", hydration is "vital for our skin's health".

A "vital step" in Masha's books, layering is absolutely "key", explaining: "Layering hydration rejuvenates cells, repairs and maintains the skin barrier and literally shields your skin from pollutants and irritants all day long."

Step-by-step: How to layer your skin care

"After washing my face, my favourite step is to mist, then add my HA and then layer with a copper peptide and tripeptide serum," Masha said.

Doing so has "significantly improved" the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on her face.

Next, the moisture must be locked in. This step can be done even when wearing an SPF. Masha says that she uses a lipid or a squalene-based cream on the wrinkle-ridden patch.

At night time, it's best to search for a cream that doesn't "just wipe off on your pillow or evaporate while you sleep".

A deep-nourishing cream is recommended and has "done wonders" for Masha. To know it's working, you can generally still feel the cream on your face the next morning, she said.

Choosing the right product

The first mistake that people generally make is failing to understand that fine lines are down to dehydration.

Treating such wrinkles with acids and retinoids would be a "huge mistake". "Above all, your skin needs moisture," Masha advised.

And buying "any old hydrating product" is a "no-no". "The key is to use quality hydrating products, layer ingredients that plump, hydrate and improve elasticity and lock it all in.

"I have used this method absolutely religiously. It works to improve lines and wrinkles, every time without fail," Masha vowed.

Instead, she promoted science-backed, well-researched, quality formulations which are appropriate for those over 30, adding: "I have experienced first-hand the huge difference these products make".
