The popular plant blooms in spring and needs regular attention to make this possible, plant expert at app Plantum Anastasia Borisevich told GB News.

She said: "The peace lily (Spathiphyllum wallisii) is one of the most popular houseplants all over the world - and no wonder.

"Who can resist such a beauty, with its luscious green foliage and showy white flowers? Spathiphyllum starts blooming in spring, pleasing its owner with a nice fragrance and gorgeous sight for about five to six weeks.

"To start blooming, it needs regular watering, light and nutrients. The watering frequency will depend on the temperature.

"The soil dries out faster in hot weather, so you'll need to water about every three to five days. Reduce watering to once every seven days as the temperature drops. Use soft, settled, warm water.

"Thoroughly soak the soil and allow excess moisture to seep through the drainage holes into the plant saucer. Remove excess water from the saucer to prevent root rot."

Ensuring the plants are appropriately watered is vital for their success. However, the plant expert warned about the effects of dry air and direct sunlight.

Anastasia continued: "The only weak spot of the peace lily is dry air. Spathiphyllum is a guest from tropical regions that enjoys watering and humidity quite a bit. Be sure to provide it with regular spraying to nourish its lush green foliage. Tepid, filtered water works best for this.

"Put the pot on a windowsill with bright, diffused light, daily mist its foliage or place a humidifier nearby, and the plant will please you with lush flowering.

"Keep your plant away from direct sunlight. Provide it with bright but filtered light. Don't expose it to drafts, especially after watering. The plant does well in partial shade but it’s unlikely to bloom in such conditions."

During the warmer months, plant owners can benefit from regularly feeding their plants.

The expert added: "From spring to fall, feed your plant two times a month. Opt for a fertiliser formulated for flowering houseplants. Spathiphyllum usually blooms in spring."

Peace lilies can last many years if cared for properly and Anastasia stressed it can make a great addition to any home.

She added: "The peace lily is a godsend for those who are looking to renovate their living space because it goes well with any interior design style.

"It looks exceptionally good combined with exotic plants. The peace lily has been conquering the gardening world since 1870 when it was first introduced into Europe."
