Asda has recalled vegetables as packs could be contaminated. Shoppers are urged to check for the batches that pose a risk

Supermarkets don't often recall items but the warnings should be taken seriously when they are issued as they could pose a risk to health or consumer safety.

Asda has warned shoppers not to eat some packs of Taj spinach sold in its stores.

Taj Chopped Spinach 450 grams

Date Code: Best Before: 01-2026 (Jan 2026)

The spinach packs could contain metal which would be dangerous for customers to consume.

Asda told customers: "This is a precautionary recall due to the possibility of the product containing small pieces of metal.

"If you have purchased Taj Chopped Spinach 450g with Best Before dates 01-2026 (Jan 2026), please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund. You do not need your receipt.

"We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you would like any further information, please contact: Asda Customer Relations – 0800 952 0101."

Those who have purchased the product should not eat it as a precaution. They can return it to stores where they will be able to get a full refund.

The Food Standards Agency shared items can be withdrawn or recalled when they are found to pose a risk.

It said: "Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).

"Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert."

This comes as Tesco recalled pulled snacks from shelves over the risk of itchy rashes and vomiting, with several products affected.

Tesco stated: "Jolly Hog are recalling specific date codes of The Jolly Hog 8 BBQ Pulled Pork Hoguettes 184g, due to a possible presence of milk, which is an undeclared allergen in the product.

"This may pose a risk to people with a milk allergy/intolerance. If you’ve bought an affected product and have an allergy/intolerance to milk, please don’t eat it. Instead, return it to a Tesco store for a refund. No receipt is required."

If someone with an allergy or intolerance consumes milk, it can cause symptoms that range in severity. In extreme cases, it can cause rashes and sickness.

Doritos Tangy Cheese in 180-gram bags with the best before date of June 1, 2024 were also recalled. They were sold in Tesco stores.
