The Italian digestif can be enjoyed a variety of ways

As the nation basks in glorious weather, it comes as no surprise that Britons might be keen on reaching for a refreshing evening tipple this week.

Thankfully, Marks & Spencer has unveiled a new Italian-inspired addition to its shelves with the launch of a zesty Limoncello Liqueur, in a bid to capture the essence of Southern Italy's beloved lemon liqueur.

Featuring authentic Italian lemon peels and offers versatile serving options for discerning customers, M&S describes the liqueur as "bursting with zesty Italian lemon peels, perfect for sunny days, rooftop cocktails, or levelling up your Prosecco".

The traditional Italian digestif can be enjoyed in multiple ways; from it being chilled on its own, incorporated into cocktails, or simply poured over ice for a refreshing summer drink.

British shoppers have responded with an abundance of enthusiasm to the new offering, with one excited customer saying: "They are doing cans of limoncello spritz! Goodness, this is dangerous!"

The liqueur appears to be evoking fond memories of Mediterranean holidays amongst M&S customers, with another shopper remarking: "Oh wow! Happy memories of Rome!"

The nostalgic appeal of the product was further evident when another customer reminisced: "I love limoncello, reminds me of Italia!"

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

The heritage liqueur originates from Southern Italy's picturesque regions, particularly the Gulf of Naples, the Amalfi Coast, and Sicily.

After boasting its latest new product, M&S explains that authentic limoncello is crafted by steeping lemon zest in alcohol before sweetening with simple syrup, resulting in a "cloudy, pale yellow Italian lemon liqueur".

The retailer offers several serving suggestions for the "sweet and smooth" drink with its "bright, zesty taste". However, committed traditionalists might prefer it chilled as a post-dinner digestif in a small glass.

For those seeking longer drinks, M&S recommends mixing the limoncello with tonic water, soda water, or lemonade over ice. Summer entertaining calls for a sparkling spritz, combining the liqueur with prosecco and soda water, garnished with fresh mint or thyme.

But, if you're in need of a bit more variety beyond citrus flavours, Marks & Spencer has unveiled its latest summer drinks collection, featuring four new spritz varieties and three premium cocktail tinnies from The Marksologist range.

The new offerings are now available in M&S Foodhalls across the country, including Hugo, Limoncello, Aperitivo, and Saké with lychee flavours.

Meanwhile, the Marksologist range has expanded with a traditional Margarita, a Spicy Mezcal Margarita, and a Bloody Mary.
