A gravy-flavoured gelato has left foodies in a state of disbelief

Just last month, KFC partnered with Hackney Gelato to launch a peculiar frozen dessert: gravy-flavoured gelato.

The collaboration produced a 460ml tub of the savoury ice cream, featuring "rich notes of peppercorn, and of course, chicken," leaving foodies reeling.

KFC described the product as "the first-ever Gravy Gelato, a bold, frozen twist on the nation's favourite gravy".

For those who have dared to try the dessert (available via the KFC Shop), customer reactions ranged from intrigue to outright disbelief.

Commenting on a new post by food blog Newfoodsuk, one fair commenter said: "I feel like that wouldn't be too bad if you were too hot but didn't fancy anything sweet."

Meanwhile, others expressed curiosity, with one daring foodie declaring: "I would actually give that a go." Another admitted: "It wasn't that bad - I kinda liked it."

The dessert's divisive nature predominantly resulted in scepticism, with one saying that they had to check that it wasn't April Fool's Day.

"Just because you can doesn't mean you should," a social media user cautioned, while another joked: "I'm phoning the police, or is this a wind up?"

But despite the seemingly contradictory combination of savoury and sweet, some customers found themselves won over.

"This sounds disgusting...But I want to try it," one person admitted, while another described it as "grim, but amazing at the same time".

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

The unusual dessert has perplexed British foodies, with one baffled customer questioning: "That can't be real, surely." Still, another admitted the unique combo was "moreish", although they "weren't sure how".

KFC's latest concoction has certainly won over many foodies, though, with the limited-edition gravy gelato officially selling out online.

The unconventional treat went on sale exclusively through the KFC Shop on May 15, priced at £5.50, with all proceeds benefiting the KFC Youth Foundation. Despite its chicken-inspired flavour profile, the product is suitable for vegetarians.

For those who plan on sampling the dessert, KFC recommends serving the gelato 15 minutes after removing it from the freezer for optimal enjoyment of its "luxuriously velvety texture".

Brand manager at KFC, Phoebe Syms, said: "With this collaboration, we've taken the nation's gravy obsession to the next level to give the people what they never knew they needed."

Meanwhile, CEO at Hackney Gelato, Tom Lister, commented: "We're no strangers to pushing flavour boundaries, but gravy? This is a first for Hackney Gelato.

"When KFC asked if we could do this, it took some convincing of Enrico and our chefs, but as ever they stepped up and delivered - we can't wait for fans to try this intriguing and savoury delight."
