The supermarket describes it as 'a luxury drink that doesn't come with a luxury price tag'

Asda is shaking up the festive drinks scene this Christmas with a brand-new sparkling red wine.

The supermarket has launched its exclusive Riunite Sparkling Red, priced at just £6.52 per bottle, positioning it as the ultimate "Friendsmas" fizz.

From Italy's renowned Emilia-Romagna wine region, this bubbly red offers a lighter alternative for those who love wine but fancy something a little more refreshing this Christmas.

With an ABV of 9.5 per cent, it's gentler than your typical red, making it ideal for kicking off celebrations without going too heavy too early.

The wine is a contemporary twist on traditional Lambrusco, crafted using the Charmat method but designed for "younger, fizz-loving customer who enjoys a drier, fruiter drink".

Asda is confident the tipple will "steal the limelight" this December, delighting taste buds with floral notes of raspberry and red cherry and subtle hints of savoury herbs and spices.

According to the supermarket, it's great paired with grazing boards – think salami, Parma ham, and cheese – making it a great choice for party season entertaining.

The supermarket described it as "a luxury drink that doesn't come with a luxury price tag", adding that it's already being associated with "lifestyle elevation".

In good news for cost-conscious shoppers, the Riunite Sparkling Red is included in Asda's Buy 6 Save 25 per cent promotion, which is running until December 18. This brings the cost down to under £30 for six bottles.

But the sparkling red isn't the only festive treat Asda is hoping will turn heads this Christmas.

In the lead-up to Christmas, Asda became the first UK retailer to launch chilled mince pie desserts that also promise to "steal the limelight".

The Whipped Cream Mince Pies cost £3.12 for a pack of two and feature golden puff pastry filled with rich mincemeat containing sultanas, currants, glacé cherries, and cranberries.

What makes it special is the showstopping "twist": a topping of lightly aerated British cream finished with sweet snow.

These aren't your grab-and-go mince pies; they're designed as a "decadent dessert" to enjoy after dinner.

According to Asda, the pies tap into the "More is More" trend, bringing "comfort and familiarity, but with a touch of luxury" this Christmas.

Festive foodies can also try Asda Caramel Florentine Mince Pies this Christmas, which GB News rated in our annual mince pie taste test.
